About Clive Branson
A Lifetime Beside the Water
For more than sixty years, Clive Branson has devoted his life to Britain’s rivers, lakes and the remarkable fish that inhabit them. What began as a young boy’s fascination with the River Taff in Cardiff grew into a lifelong passion that would take him to the very highest level of international match fishing.
Representing Wales on the world stage, Clive enjoyed one of the most successful competitive careers in British angling, becoming World Freshwater Angling Champion in 1987, winning the Individual Silver Medal in 1986, and helping Wales achieve international team success. Throughout his career, he competed against many of the greatest anglers of his generation and became recognised as one of the pioneers of modern match fishing.
But for Clive, angling has always been about far more than competition.
It has been about understanding rivers, respecting wildlife, and appreciating the hidden world that exists beneath the surface.
Over the decades he has written books, produced coaching videos, developed tackle and groundbait ideas, shared thousands of articles, and inspired anglers of all ages through his writing and online communities. His aim has always been the same: to encourage people to enjoy fishing while caring for the rivers and fish that make the sport possible.
Our Jewels in the Water
Our Jewels in the Water brings together many of Clive’s lifelong passions into one unique project.
It celebrates every one of Britain’s freshwater fish through original music, natural history, personal stories and conservation. Each species has its own chapter, its own song and its own place within Britain’s freshwater heritage.
More than simply a fishing book or a music album, it is a tribute to the rivers that have shaped Clive’s life and to the remarkable wildlife that swims beneath their surface.
His hope is that anglers, families, schools, conservationists and nature lovers alike will discover a new appreciation for these often-overlooked freshwater treasures.
