The Story Behind the Project
About Our Jewels in the Water
Our Jewels in the Water grew from a lifetime spent beside Britain’s rivers, canals and lakes, and from a deep fascination with the remarkable fish that live beneath the surface.
The project brings together music, natural history, art, angling memories and conservation in one celebration of Britain’s freshwater world.
A Lifetime by the Water
Created from More Than Sixty Years of Angling
The project was created by former World Angling Champion and author Clive Branson, drawing on more than sixty years of experience in angling.
Over those years, countless fish have become part of lasting memories — from tiny minnows and gudgeon to powerful barbel, carp, pike, salmon and many others.
Our Jewels in the Water was born from the idea that these fish deserve to be celebrated not simply as species, but as extraordinary living jewels.
Stories Through Song
Why Music?
Music has the ability to turn facts into memories and stories into emotion. Each song was created to give a different fish its own character, identity and story.
Across four volumes, the 60-track collection travels through Britain’s freshwater world — celebrating familiar favourites, rare species, forgotten fish and the hidden lives beneath the surface.
Beyond the Songs
The Companion Books
The books expand the project beyond the music, bringing together fish profiles, natural history, illustrations, full lyrics, memories and QR links that connect readers directly to the songs.
They are designed to be enjoyed by anglers, families, schools and anyone with an interest in Britain’s rivers and freshwater wildlife.
Music With a Purpose
Giving Something Back
The project is also intended to support the angling community and the waterways that inspired it.
Angling Trust
Supporting angling, fisheries and the protection of Britain’s rivers and freshwater environment.
Tackling Minds
Supporting the use of angling to improve mental health, wellbeing and social connection.
Together, 20% of direct project sales is set aside to support these organisations.
Inspire • Educate • Protect
Seeing Our Waters Differently
Many people walk beside a river or lake without ever seeing what lies beneath the surface.
The hope behind Our Jewels in the Water is that music, stories and imagery can help people discover that hidden world — and perhaps care a little more about protecting it.
